Hey girls. Todays post is about choosing the right sunglasses for your face shape. Personally i just try on different sunglasses in a shop and i just buy the ones i love. I never think twice about the shape of my face, if i like i buy. However i have had loads of people ask me about sunglasses and which ones suit which face shapes. Especially as it is sunglasses season now everyone wants to know. So i decided that instead of answering everyone individually i would do a post based on them so here goes.
The round face shape - Rectangular Frames
Choosing eyeglasses that are narrow and rectangular, with brow bars, will pull the eye upward, giving out the illusion of a longer face rather than just a round one.
Girls we all know round faces have fuller cheeks so you want to pick frames that make your face look longer and thinner. Have a look for angular frames and more horizontal styles to sharpen the face and add extra length.
I know the cartoon image is just confusing so here is Nicole Richie who has a round face showing us how its done.
Its best for people with round faces to draw attention to the top halves of their face to add extra length. Cristina Ricci has got it right by chosing a pair of shades where the arm of the classes connects to the top of the frame.
The Oval Face Shape -The world is your oyster
Now if you're one of the lucky ones with an oval face shape EVERYTHING SUITS YOU. *YAY* There is no limit as to what kind of glasses and in what shape you should buy. Every type of sunglasses will look beautiful on you. In this case, you can go wild and crazy or classic and tame – your face shape will have no problems with your choice. Let your personality dictate what kind of eyeglasses to buy – the sky's the limit.
Gwen Stefani & Camilla Belle are one of those lucky girls that can rock any pair of shades and get away with it.
The Square Face Shape - Oval or Round frames
The best pair of sunnies that suit the square face shape are round and oval frames. Don't wear harsh angle frames that will accentuate your strong features but wear frames with a softer edge to soften them.
Demi Moore and Jennifer Aniston wear shades that complement their square face shape.
The Heart Face Shape - Rectangular or oval frames
Okay girls if your face shape is heart shaped then you are one of those dolls who have wider foreheads and thinner jaw lines and will need a lot of help from the narrow frame styles. Whether it is rectangular or oval, your goal is to choose a pair of eyeglasses that will provide contrast to your face shape and not imitate it. Stay away from aviator glasses or shades because they will only emphasize the shape of your face. You must also remember to avoid semi rimmed glasses, as they will draw attention to the wider part of your face. You may go either fully rimmed or rimless. But your best choice is mostly the rimless type in light colour frames, as they will give the illusion of a thinner face, which should be your goal.
Reese Witherspoon & Kristin Cavallari wear glasses that add width to the lower part of their face, so bigger styles work well but avoid anything that sits high and wide.
The Rectangular Face Shape - Aviator Frames
If you are one of the girls with a longer face then wider glasses or my favourite aviator glasses are definitely for you. Since they are wide, they will make your long face appear shorter and wider. That is the best contrast you could give a face shape that is longer than it is wider. Aviator frames will give your face the balance that it needs. If you wear narrow rectangular eyeglasses with a long face, your long face will look longer so try to avoid choosing them.
Angelina Jolie and Style Icon Sarah Jessica Parka show us how its done by wearing wider sunglasses to widen their oblong shaped faces.
SKIN
Pale complexions
Try lightweight frames or those with a touch of colour such as rose or amber. Tortoiseshell frames suit fair complexions (avoid darker versions) but clear, blue or green tinged frames tend to drain colour from cheeks.

Medium complexions
Olive, Mediterranean, Golden or Asian skin and dark hair can look stunning in silver, gold or clear frames – but avoid black which can be too heavy.
Dark/Black complexions
All metallic frames suit black skins and amber often works well – be very careful with black frames, which can look spectacular or awful!
HAIR Soft & curly: Enhanced by delicate shapes, rimless frames and translucent colours Very curly: Choose a frame that follows your hairline. Classic small frames are advisable Short: Geometric frames, or rounder frames look best Very short: Bold colours and designs, as well as decorative styles Long hair: Try the frames with both your hair up and down, as the change in style may alter the look of the frame. |
